PROF. OLUSOJI STEPHEN
Stephen Olusoji got his National Certificate of Education (N.C.E. Music Technical) from the Polytechnic Ibadan, B.A. Music Hons. Specialising in Composition (U.N.N.), M.A. African Music (Ibadan), Ph.D. Musicology (Ibadan) , and other professional certificates. He has contributed chapters and articles in reputable, high-impact journals and books such as Palgrave MacMillan, Routledge Taylor & Francis, Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of the World Vol.12, Ajote (Guelph University Library), UCLA (Contemporary score collections), Janim(journal of the Association of Nigerian Musicologists) and others.
He has also served as a reviewer for Oxford Bibliographies, Oxford University Press, USA, International African Institute, University of Cambridge, South African College of Music, University of Cape Town, and served as external examiner at the University of Liverpool, University of Pretoria, South Africa and other universities in Nigeria.
He also presented a paper at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute Exploratory Virtual Seminar for African Art Music Composers, Performers and Scholars (2021). His research work and interests are musicological and multidisciplinary in nature. He is a Composer-Musicologist, whose works have been commissioned and performed at home and abroad (i.e. Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival 2012, Muson Music Festival 2011).
He has collected, notated and arranged folk materials from various ethnic groups in Nigeria, which culminated in the publication of two books: (i) Nigerian Dances for Piano vol.1 (ii) Melorhythmic pieces for musical instruments vol. 1. Both books were given rare reviews by two Nigerian newspapers (Guardian and Vanguard, etc.) and are used as resource materials in some Nigerian higher institutions and conservatories. A Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Musicologists (FANIM). Stephen got an Erasmus Grant to the Alessandro Scarlatti Conservatory, Palermo, Italy. He was also a keynote speaker at the Beijing Institute of Technology China-Nigeria Conference in 2024. He is a member of the Association of Nigerian Musicologists (Anim), Pan African Society of Musical Arts Educators (Pasmae), Society of Music Educators Nigeria (SOMEN), and other associations. He directs the Foundation choir and orchestra in Lagos.
An avid gardener. He is happily married with children.
