Abstract
Chinedum (“God Leads Me”) is an Afrobeat-inspired gospel composition for solo voice that
integrates a solo–chorus refrain structure with a 12/8 compound metre to create a fluid, devotional sound world. Set in A-flat major and unfolding across 85 bars, the piece employs a moderate tempo and a gentle rocking rhythmic profile that reinforces its themes of divine guidance, protection, and spiritual assurance. Drawing on biblical imagery, multilingual expression, and African musical aesthetics, the composition weaves together English and Igbo texts to broaden accessibility while affirming cultural identity. The alternation between solo lines and choral responses strengthens its communal orientation, while repetitive refrains enhance memorability and emotional resonance.
Through its expressive melodic writing, rhythmic vitality, and theological depth, Chinedum offers an uplifting musical experience that affirms faith, inspires confidence, and reflects the enduring power of contemporary Nigerian gospel music as a medium for spiritual encouragement and collective affirmation.
